Michael Jackson about to be Crowned King of the World

The king of pop is set to receive the Diamond Award at the World Music Awards in London next month, honoring his career album sales in excess of 100 million.

Jackson will make a rare public appearance at the Nov. 15 ceremony to collect his hardware.

Upping the spectacle ante: Lindsay Lohan has been tapped to host the to-do, taking place in the U.K. for the first time in its 18-year history.

According to the organizers, Jackson was chosen to receive the Diamond Award due solely to his impressive sales, despite the fact that he hit the 100 million milestone years ago. He joins of select list of winners that includes Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Bon Jovi and Celine Dion.

The World Music Awards does not dole out the prestigious honor every year, and not only because of a dearth of qualified recipients. According to the awards show, the honor is presented only when there is “a very special reason for it, and there can be no doubt that Michael Jackson is the most special reason.”

Jackson, of course, has been attempting to raise his musical profile—while keeping his personal travails on the down low—as he strives toward a comeback.

The timing of the award also happens to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Thriller, Jackson’s ground- and record-breaking album that has sold more than 40 million copies since its 1982 release.

The choice of venue for Jackson’s U.K. coming-out party—he hasn’t publicly appeared in Britain since 1997—is something of an odd one.

In any event, Jackson and Lohan aren’t the only VIP RSVPs. Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli will all perform at the ceremony.

Aside from preparing his acceptance speech, Jackson is also said to be working on his long-coming follow-up album to the critically panned 2001 release, Invincible, despite having recently split with the Bahrain-based record label Two Seas.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Times reported that Jackson had enlisted the help of several prominent hip-hop producers and was working his way to a more urban sound.

When Jackson was partnered with Two Seas, his camp proclaimed that a new album would be out in 2007.

It’s Splitsville For Reese and Ryan!

After seven years of marriage Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have formally separated.

This information was confirmed by several news channels. Their publicists stated: “We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate,” read a statement from the couple’s camp. “They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time.”

No divorce papers have been filed, though TMZ.com reports that Witherspoon has contacted Hollywood wives’ go-to attorney, Robert Kaufman. The split specialist has previously represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley in their high-profile uncouplings.

Although Monday’s announcement was unexpected, particularly for believers in the Hollywood happy ending, rumors of marital strife have dogged the twosome for years.

Just last week the camera-ready couple hit the red carpet at a special New York screening of Phillippe’s newest film, the Clint Eastwood-directed Flags of Our Fathers, for which they were all smiles. But some tabloids and gossip Websites reported the two had a public spat that precipitated an early exit from the event.

Word of trouble in paradise first began circulating in 2002, when Witherspoon admitted that she and Phillippe dealt with problems in the marriage by attending couple’s therapy, an admission that sparked rumors of infidelity and career jealousy and headlines touting an impending split.

In an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show last year, Witherspoon, 30, again defended the strength of her marriage and their decision to work their problems out with a counselor.

Phillippe echoed the sentiment to the new issue of Interview magazine, out this month.

The 32-year-old actor admitted to actively distancing himself from his wife and family while filming on location.

According to TMZ.com, which first reported on the separation, no one event sparked the break-up, rather the decision to split was well thought out and based on cumulative events.

As far as Hollywood folklore is concerned, however, a tipping point may have come in February, when Witherspoon took home the Best Actress Oscar for Walk the Line.

Roger Federer unstoppable!!!!

Roger Federer beat Fernando Gonzalez 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (3) Sunday to win his fourth straight title and 11th of the year at the Swiss Indoors. The final was a rematch of last week’s Madrid Masters final, also won by Federer in three sets. Federer won his 24th straight match, his longest streak of the year, he has never lost to Gonzalez in nine meetings. Federer has not lost since being upset by Andy Murray in Cincinnati in August. His record this year is 87-5 and last week he became the first player in the Open era to win 10 titles for three straight years.

Federer had twice previously reached the final in Basel, but lost to Thomas Enqvist in 2000 and to Tim Henman a year later. He did not play the last two years because of injuries. Roger is one of the best tennis players in the Tour, very few give him a fight and he just a pleasure to watch.

NFL Sunday Chicago vs San Fransisco

Both teams are coming off a bye week in which the Bears used to regain confidence in their offense, especially QB Rex Grossman, who had six turnovers against the Cardinals in Week 6. The Bears are one of the NFL’s final two remaining unbeaten teams and will look to extend their perfect record against the rebuilding 49ers.

The 49ers are going through many ups and downs. They’re lacking stability due to injuries along the offensive line. QB Alex Smith has been a bright spot for the 49ers and will look to remain steady and resilient as he leads the team into a hostile environment.

The Bears have not been 7-0 since winning their first 12 games during their Super Bowl-winning season in 1985, we’ll see if the winning streak continues today. SkytowerCasino and Sportsbook has all of the NFL’S week 8, be sure to check the Live Odds for this weeks games.

NFL Sunday Pittsburgh vs Oakland!!!

The Steelers could be without Roethlisberger for a second time today when they visit the Oakland Raiders. They have already won once without the starting QB, Roethlisberger suffered a blow to the head and was knocked unconscious in the third quarter of last week’s 41-38 overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He is questionable for today. Roethlisberger has endured numerous setbacks, he first suffered serious facial injuries back in June due to a motorcycle accident, then underwent an emergency appendectomy in September right before the start of the season. Backup QB Charlie Batch started the opener which gave the Steelers their first win over Miami.

With or without Roethlisberger the Steelers are in desperate need of a win, the Super Bowl champions are in third place in the AFC North, two games behind both Baltimore and Cincinnati. Both Raiders and Steelers have met in Pittsburgh four times with the Steelers winning three times.

The Raiders finally picked up their first win last week, a 22-9 victory over last-place Arizona. Randy Moss caught seven passes for 129 yards and a touchdown and QB Andrew Walter completed 17-of-30 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown with an interception before leaving with a hamstring injury. He is expected to start today.

All the NFL action is at SkytowerCasino and Sportsbook, check out the Live Odds for this game and the rest of todays matchups. Props and special Promotions are available don’t miss out on the action.

UFC 65 Coming Soon!!!!

November 18th is the big day we all are waiting for. Some big fights will take place at UFC 65 one of them will be between Nick “Diablo” Diaz vs Gleison Tibau. Native from California, Diaz has a 14-6 as pro, he’s coming off quite an impressive win of his UFC career in August as he showed a complete MMA game in submitting tough Josh Neer at UFC 62.

Gleason Tibau, 23 years old, is a complete specialist in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He started fighting at the age of 15 in his native Brazil and will be making his UFC debut on November 18. There is always pressure for the newcomers but they all show that they are ready for the challenge. We’ll have to wait for Nov 18 and see what Tibau has to offer.

UFC 65 will be huge, another of the bouts will be between hard-hitting light heavyweight Alessio Sakara vs Wilson Gouveia and TUF2 finalist Brad Imes vs Antoni Hardonk.

Sakara 14-4, (1 no contest) will look to rebound from his first UFC loss in May to Dean Lister when he takes on American Top Team’s Wilson Gouveia (7-4) in what should be an exciting standup battle.

Relative newcomer Imes 5-2, has showed great potential in his bouts with Rashard Evans and Dan Christison. He initially appeared in season two of The Ultimate Fighter where he showed us what he is capable of, he’ll now have to prove that he can take on the big guns that get in front of him and will now have the hard task against the Holland native who holds a blue belt in jiu-jitsu under Rickson Gracie and has trained under kickboxing star Ernesto Hoost.

Don’t forget UFC 65 all the action will be on November 18 you will only find them at SkytowerCasino and Sportsbook, great promotions and Live Odds are available.

Tiger to miss Tour Championship!!!

The season-ending tournament will not have one of the best golfers playing the tournament. The tournament is only open to the top 30 players on the PGA Tour money list and Woods decided to not take part in it due to fatigue from recent tournaments and he would like to reload strenghts for next season. His absence is a major blow to golf fans who would’ve loved to see the best of the best play the tournament and give it the importance it has, but that won’t happen. The Tour Championship will also be without the great Phil Mickelson this is the second time he misses out on the TC.

Woods will close out his 2006 season by playing in two international events, the HSBC Champions Tournament and Dunlop Phoenix Tournament, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and his own event, the Target World Challenge Presented by Countrywide.

Game 5 and Final Cardinals are the CHAMPIONS!!!!

The St. Louis Cardinals used an unlikely cast of characters to win their first World Series in nearly a quarter century. Jeff Weaver dominated and Detroit just didn’t have any Tigers in them, the Cards beat the Tigers 4-2 to win the series in five games. Like I said in all of my series blogs Detroit lacked hitting the ball and producing runs which is the only way to win games. Shortstop David Eckstein had four hits in Game 4, was the Series MVP. It’s the 10th World Series title for the Cardinals, their first since 1982 and Tony La Rusa has become the second manager to win Series titles in each league. Congratulations to St Louis fans for this new Championship it’s party time now.

NBA 06/07 Season right around the corner!!!

The best basketball around the world is about to begin next week and the teams are getting ready for tipoff. Here is a sneak peak at some of the teams to watch for this upcoming season.

Eastern Conference

Miami Heat

Pat Riley knows that his team of vets will find their stride sometime in the second half of the year, so he cannot afford to open too slowly and risk losing home-court advantage through most of the playoffs. Miami will need some help from Dorell Wright a  very talented player yet in development to help secure playoff berths and a better future.

Detroit Pistons

With Ben Wallace out of the picture coach Saunders has to get the team back in sync and purge the memories of last year’s playoff struggles. Getting newly acquired Flip Murray and second-year prospect Jason Maxiell into the rotation from opening day will prove challenging, the core guys can play together with their eyes closed and don’t need anybody else. But adding new blood will help the vets later in the season.

Chicago Bulls

Over the past couple of seasons the Bulls have crafted a young and exciting team. The stakes have been raised with the signing of Ben Wallace to anchor what should be the best defense in the league. The signal has been sent to the league that the Bulls are no longer content with being first-round playoff fodder; instead, they’re aiming for a seventh championship for next summer.

Indiana Pacers

This might be the only team outside of New York that is faced with as many challenges off the court as on it. The off-court issues add to the pressure Rick Carlisle faces as he attempts to reinvigorate both his team and the fan base. Carlisle also has to concoct a strategy that allows for Stephen Jackson to miss a number of games in the event he is suspended.

New York Knicks

Isiah Thomas should win more games than Larry Brown simply because he’s not Brown and he’ll let his guys play to their strengths. But letting guards Stephon Marbury, Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson run wild could prove damaging to the development of New York’s young, talented frontcourt. So Thomas must have a deft touch in opening the game up yet maintaining some control. If he fails early, we’re looking at a complete train wreck something fans don’t expect to happen.

Philadelphia 76ers

Allen Iverson and Chris Webber dominated the ball last year. If Maurice Cheeks actually coaches this year and plays Andre Iguodala some at point guard, it will give him the fuel he needs to be a big-time contributor.

New Jersey Nets

As usual, the Nets’ fortunes lie with their Big Three-and-a-Half: Kidd, Carter, Jefferson. Though the Half: Marcus Williams, Josh Boone and Hassan Adams will have to contribute to the team if they want there first NBA title with their energy, quickness and some solid D.
