The drawing for the CONCACAF final round for 2010 soccer world cup, made in Johannesburg, drop a first match day between the two “strongest” teams in the region, USA and Mexico.
The first match between the two national teams will be gamble in the states field, on February 11th, 2009. While the comeback will be on August 12th in Mexican lands.
The first match day will be completed with the matches between Costa Rica and Honduras, and El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago.
USA, current CONCACAF champion, will have in addition in the middle of the year a trip to South Africa, to dispute the Confederations Cup.
On the Mexican side, will be a hard beginning, after barely go through in a rough qualifying round, giving a bad impression with just one point earned in the last 3 matches.
Three and half places will be playing the North America, Central America and Caribbean zone. The first three will advance directly to South Africa, while the fourth one will have the chance to qualify in a final play-off against the fifth place of the CONMEBOL, South America soccer confederation.
Trinidad and Tobago, the smallest country ever to qualify to a FIFA World Cup, wants to repeat what they did for the 2006 Soccer Cup.
Costa Rica, classified with 100% average, is showing as one of the strongest teams in the final round as they are in the search of a fourth World Cup.
On the other side, Honduras and El Salvador do not qualify to a World cup since Spain 82.
