The past two NFC champions – Cardinals (2008) and Giants (2007) – meet on Sunday night in the Big Apple. New York is 5-1 and leads the NFC East while the Cardinals are tied for first in the NFC West with a 3-2 record.
The Cardinals (3-2) won in Seattle 27-3 in Week 6 and now sit second in the NFC West. QB Kurt Warner made 32 of 41 passes for 276 yards with two TD passes and one interception; overall he’s thrown for 1,441 yards with eight TD passes and five interceptions. RB Timothy Hightower had 13 carries for 32 yards with a TD, while WR Larry Fitzgerald made 13 catches for 100 yards and a TD. WR Steve Breaston also chipped in with a TD. The Cardinals defense gave up a low 14 rushing yards, 114 yards passing and they had five sacks on the day.
The Giants (5-1) lost in New Orleans 27-48 in Week 6 and still sit atop the NFC East. QB Eli Manning made 14 of 31 passes for 178 yards with one TD pass and an interception; overall he’s thrown for 1,390 with 11 TD passes and three interceptions. RB Ahmad Bradshaw had 10 carries for 48 yards with a TD, while WR Hakeem Nicks and WR Mario Manningham combined for 164 yards with two TD’s. This wasn’t the Giants we usually see, they committed nine penalties that set them back 110 yards. The Giants had given up only 23 points combined in their previous three games. They allowed the Saints 34 points by halftime. This was supposed to be a battle of NFC heavyweights, but the Giants didn’t belong on the same field as the Saints. Time after time, Brees dropped back and threw to whomever Giants safety C.C. Brown was covering. And when that finally got old, he tossed a couple of touchdowns in cornerback Kevin Dockery’s direction.
