This Thursday evening an ACC match-up goes down for week eight of the 2009 college football season. The Florida State Seminoles travel north to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels this Thursday, October 22nd at 8pm.

The Tar Heels rank third nationally in pass defense and fifth in total defense, and has held four of the six opponents the have faced, to under 100 yards rushing. The problem for North Carolina is on offense. North Carolina’s offense ranks 10th or worse in the Atlantic Coast Conference in all five major statistical categories. The Tar Heels have yet to launch a consistent running attack, especially against quality defenses. he 2009 Tar Heels teams leaders include; quarterback T.J. Yates completing 96 passes on 158 attempts for 964 yards with six touchdowns, Shaun Draughn leads in rushing with 88 carries for 355 yards with one touchdown and Erik Highsmith leads in receiving with 18 receptions for 290 yards with two touchdowns.

Florida State has lost three straight games, coming into Thursday night’s contest falling, 49-44 at Georgia Tech in Week 6. Based on their performance against the Yellow Jackets, the Seminoles have to feel good about their offense production heading into Thursday’s game. The Seminoles defense still needs tweaking, particularly in the area of pass rushing. They hold a 2-4 season record. The 2009 Seminoles teams leaders include; quarterback Christian Ponder completing 147 passes on 217 attempts for 1781 yards with nine touchdowns, Ty Jones leads in rushing with 46 carries for 228 yards with four touchdowns and Bert Reed leads in receiving with 28 receptions for 364 yards.
